What is TPU Filament?

TPU filament gets its name from what it is made out of, which is Thermoplastic Polyurethane. In the world of 3D printing, PLA filament and ABS filament are the standard plastics used, but both lack a property that makes TPU filament so versatile, which is flexibility. Soft and durable, it is commonly used for making consumer products like protective cases to industrial products such as transmission belts. Another factor that makes TPU so easy to use is how easily it can be cleaned because of its resistance to oils and grease. However, it should always be kept away from fuels, solvents, and acids, as these can degrade and breakdown the bonds in its molecular makeup. Finally, TPU filament adheres well to many various surfaces, including glass, aluminum, and Kapton tape, ensuring general usage in many different environments.
